Vincennes University commencement is Saturday, April 29, 2017

Physical Education Complex – 2:00 p.m. All graduates and their families are invited to attend the President’s special reception immediately following the ceremony in the Student Recreation Center.

Rehearsal for Commencement Ceremony is not required for East Allen University Students.

Commencement Day - Schedule of Events
12:30PM – Doors of PE Complex Open – Admittance by TICKET ONLY-Additional seating will be available in Jefferson Student Union (adjacent to Complex)

1:00 PM – Students report to the Student Recreation Center for line-up (please see the attached for line up instructions)
2:00 PM – Commencement ceremony begins--Immediately following the Ceremony – President’s Reception

Academic Honors
Graduates are candidates for academic honors if their cumulative GPA is 3.50 or higher. The honors category will be indicated next to the student’s name on the Commencement program. EAU graduates will not participate in the Academic Honors Ceremony, however, academic honors candidates are eligible to wear an honors stole at the commencement ceremony. Eligible graduates can borrow an honors stole from the VU Office on Thursday, April 27th. The cost to purchase the honor stoles is $15.00.

Seating/Accommodations

General seating for all guests. If you have special seating needs please arrive early. Wheelchair seating is available from the west end entrance.

Tickets Are Required and Requests for Additional Tickets

Seating during the VU Commencement Ceremony is limited, therefore each of your guests must have a ticket in order to enter the graduation. You will receive no more than 6 tickets per graduate (the graduate will not need a ticket). Please note: Tickets will be limited and there is no guarantee that additional tickets will be available. See Mrs. Eppinger to request up to 2 additional tickets.

General Directions to Vincennes University: 

Vincennes University is located in southwestern Indiana on the banks of the Wabash River, the state line between Illinois and Indiana. Vincennes University is located about an hour south of Terre Haute, Indiana and an hour north of Evansville, Indiana. The closest international airport is in Indianapolis, Indiana. The airport is approximately two hours northeast of Vincennes.

From Fort Wayne, IN:

  1. MergeontoI-69 Stoward Indianapolis.
  2. Merge I-465 S/US-31 S/US-52 E/US-421 S/IN-37 S/USS Indianapolis Memorial Hwy S via EXIT 200.
  3. Merge onto I-70 W via EXIT 44toward Indianapolis.
  4. Merge onto I-70 W via EXIT 110Btoward St Louis/Indpls Int'l Airport.
  5. Take the US-41/US-150 exit, EXIT 7, toward Evansville/Hospital/Terre Haute.
  6. Keep left to take the ramp toward Evansville/Ivy Tech.
  7. Turn left onto US-41 S/US-150 E/S US Highway 41 to Vincennes. Continue to followUS-41 S/US-150 E
  8. After arriving in Vincennes:

Take the 6th street exit and turn right at the stop light onto St. Clair. Cross the railroad tracks and turn left at the stop light onto 2nd street. At the next stop light, turn right onto Indianapolis. At the next left, turn into the circle drive. The Physical Education Complex address is 1401 N. Chestnut Street.

COMMENCEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

April 29, 2017 at 2:00 PM – Physical Education Complex

Robing and forming line of march

Graduates will report to the Student Recreation Center at 1:00 p.m. for line up.  Report with your robe on and line up in alpha order by the degree (Bachelor, Associates, Certificate of Graduation or Completion) which you will receive. University personnel will assist with the line up. Please use caution when proceeding down the steps to the main floor of the Physical Education Complex. Walk slowly during the processional and recessional – this is your moment!

General Instructions

  1. Graduates wear robes and mortarboards with tassels.  Preferably, men should were white or blue shirts and ties.
  1. Please turn off all cell phones.
  2. Wear your mortarboard with the top level.  Do not place it on the back of your head.  The tassel is to be worn on the right side until the degree is awarded.  Inappropriate Mortarboard messages will NOT be allowed.

  1. Blue, Gold and White cords, associate degree honor stoles, bachelor degree hoods and honor fourrageres may be worn as awarded by VU.

  1. You will receive a card during the line-up with your name printed on it.  If your name is not pronounced exactly the way it is spelled, change it on the card to the way it sounds so that the reader does not MISPRONOUNCE your name. 

    1. EX:Dognaux is NOT pronounced dog nox – phonetic spelling is Doe No.DO NOT LOSE THIS CARD.
    2. Remain standing until the National Anthem, Pledge and Invocation are completed.  Men remove your mortarboards during the National Anthem, Pledge and Invocation, then replace them.  This procedure is followed again for the benediction.  Women do not remove their mortarboards.

    1. When the degrees are to be awarded, President Johnson will ask each section, according to the degree to be awarded to stand.  You will rise together and remain standing while he says the following words:  “By the authority vested in me…I hereby confer on you the degree of ___________ with all the honors…”  When these words are completed, take your tassel and move it from right to left.  You will then be asked to be seated.  Sit down in unison.  The next group will be asked to rise and the same procedure is followed for all degrees.

    1. Your marshal will indicate where each row is to start to form the line to cross the platform to receive the diploma cover.  As you approach the person announcing the names please hand them your name card. As your name is called, walk across the platform to the center; take the diploma cover with your left hand, then shake hands with your right hand.  Remain standing until your entire row has returned.  Then be seated in unison.

    1. When leaving commencement you will exit by the same aisle you entered.Watch your marshal for directions. Walk slowly during the processional and recessional – this is your moment!

    1. Diploma covers will be handed out and diplomas will be mailed to you after completion of the semester (approximately 6-8 weeks).
    1. A photographer will take your picture with the President as you receive your diploma cover.  Be sure to look towards the camera.
